The Easiest Way to Maintain Your Classic

Classic cars are practical works of art and attract buyers of all types. In many cases someone might purchase a classic car to restore themselves and since they have the know-how to do it, it makes maintaining the car that much easier. But there are plenty of others who buy classic cars for the sheer enjoyment of driving them and being envied, yet don’t know a spark plug from an oil cap. If you fall into the latter category, maintaining your classic car in top condition can still be easier than you think, notes avid yachtsman and classic car collector, John Rosatti.

One of the most important steps in maintenance is providing a good space for the car when it’s not being driven and preparing it for storage during the cold months. In most cases a garage works fine which will protect it from the elements and provide a cleaner environment. If you want to add a car cover as well, make sure the cover is always clean. The second step to easy self-maintenance is maybe the best of all: drive it! Make sure to get out on the open road behind the wheel of the classic at regular intervals as driving the car is one of the best ways to keep the engine at top performance levels.

The final thing in maintaining a classic car is to find a qualified and trusted mechanic who specializes in working on classics. These cars are extremely different than cars built now and need the right know-how and attention from a trained professional. Attend a classic car auction or ask around to get recommendations from other classic car owners to find the right person who you can rely on to keep your car maintained over the years. It’s important to find someone you can trust and who will get to know your car as well as you do over the years.
